In this occasion I took two of my favorite thinks rice and chorizo, to make for you this super easy Spanish Rice.
Is a complete meal or a side for any occasion you have, a fast dinner or supper and of course delicious.
So come with me and enjoy this easy, easy rice, I’m sure you’r going to love it.


  • 1 bag 12 oz green peas
  • 5 oz Pork Chorizo
  • 1/2 onion dice
  • 3 cups of cooked white rice
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste


In a hot pan add the Chorizo and cook for 5 minutes, stirring constantly, add the onions and the rice, cook for another 5 minutes, season with salt-pepper and garlic powder, ad the green peas, mix and serve.
This is an ideal dish when you have leftover rice or you can cook rice in the morning and make this later.

This recipe makes 6 servings.

A side of salad is ideal to make it even more delicious.

Drunken Rice Pudding

DSC_0016-m2I love making desserts that satisfy me after a light dinner and no doubt that rice pudding is one of them.
This is definitely one of my favorites and is on my list of foods that children can eat without feeling guilty because it is a full meal.
I grew up watching my grandmother make rice pudding for years and believe it or not still can not get the exact recipe, I think the secret to their successful rice pudding she never gave it to me, but oh well this was very close and as I love to improvise I add an unexpected ingredient, liqueur, to be more specific Rum, makes it taste very delicious and different without feeling that we are consuming large amount of liquor.
I hope you like it and prepare it soon, I assure you will become one of your favorites.


  • 3 cups water
  • 11/2 cup uncooked rice
  • 5 cloves
  • 1 large cinnamon stick
  • zest of 1 lemon
  • 21/2 cup milk
  • 1 can evaporated milk 14 ounces
  • 1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup of rum
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup cramberries
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon unsalted butter
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt


In a heavy-bottomed saucepan place the water, cinnamon, cloves, lemon zest and rice, simmer for 15 minutes over low heat or until rice is fully cooked.
Add milk and remaining ingredients except butter, stir well cook for 20 minutes over low heat, stirring constantly.
Once the mixture is a little thick turn off the heat and add the butter, cover tightly.
You can substitute the Rum for coffee liqueur, Amaretto liqueur or Chocolate liqueur.

It can serve at room temperature or place in the refrigerator for 2 hours before serving.

This recipe makes about 5 cups of rice pudding.

Hearts of Palm Mix Rice #SundaySupper

DSC_0002If I learned anything since I was little, is that on occasion the food budget was cut and the meat was not an option, so as good Costa Rican girl I ate what my grandmother prepared.
One of the favorite dishes at home was the Arroz con Palmito (Hearts Of Palm Mix Rice) is very inexpensive and easy to make, the big advantage is that you can use leftover rice from the previous day and believe me in my house rice was one of the things that always leftovers.
So this week we bring you delicious recipes that will help keep the budget in line and not have to break the piggy to prepare delicious meals for your loved ones.
So stay with us this week and inspirece with these recipes that will help you in your everyday life.


  • 1 can 14 ounces of Hearts of Palm cut in pieces.
  • 4 cups cooked rice from the previous day
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 1/2 cup fat-free half and half
  • 1/2 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1 cucharada de mantequilla
  • Salt and pepper to taste


Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

In a hot pan melt butter add onion and garlic cook for 3 minutes or until onion is very soft.
Add the hearts of palm, stir well, add the half and half and rice stir well, season with salt and pepper.
Finally add the cilantro and turn off the heat.

In a greased baking dish place a layer of cheese on the bottom and half the rice, place another layer of cheese and the rest of the rice and sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.

Bake for 15 minutes.

Makes 6 servings.

DSC_0814I enjoy making easy recipes, to help us prepare a delicious meal that does not require a lot of time when doing them.Exclusively for you at home who need quick recipes I made this delicious rice with shrimp that is full of flavor, it is very easy to make and is ideal to serve on special occasions like birthday parties.
Made with ingredients you usually have in the house, and very economical.

11/2 cup uncooked parboiled rice
1 cup chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 pound medium shrimp, clean and deveined
1/2 cup chopped green onions
1/2 cup finely chopped cilantro
3 cups water
1 teaspoon Old Bay season
1 teaspoon paprika
1 small bag of frozen mix peas and carrots
salt and pepper to taste


In a saucepan heat 1 teaspoon of oil, add onion and garlic, sprinkle with a little salt and cook for 3 minutes, add the rice, paprika and old bay season, stir well.
Add mixed vegetables, green onions and shrimp, stir well. Season with salt and pepper, add the water, stir and cover the pan, lower the heat and let it cook for 20 minutes.
After 20 minutes turn off the heat and let the rice stand for 10 minutes.
Add the cilantro before serving.

This recipe makes 8 servings.

This is the basic recipe of how to prepare a delicious white rice.
It’s amazing how many people prefer to buy the rice cooked and do not realize how easy and delicious it is to make it at home.
No need for magic tools, all you need are some simple steps to make the white rice always comes out perfect.
This rice is the foundation for a lot of recipes you can make a full meal, simple, delicious and healthy.
I invite you to try this recipe and you’ll never buy cooked rice.


  • 2 cups of uncooked long grain rice
  • 1 teaspoon of oil
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 2 teaspoons of salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 1/2 cup of warm water


In a saucepan heat oil over medium heat add the garlic and rice, stir for 5 minutes, this process is called toast the rice, add salt and cilantro stir well.
Add hot water, stir the rice when you incorporate the water.

Cover and reduce heat, simmer for 20 minutes, do not lift the lid of the pot when the rice is cooking. Having completed the 20 minutes, lift the lid and stir with a fork.

Cover the pan, turn off the heat and let rice sit for 10 minutes.

Before serving, stir the rice with a fork again.

Serves 6 people.

Esta es la receta basica de como preparar un delicioso arroz blanco.
Es increíble como mucha gente prefiere comprar el arroz ya echo y no se da cuenta lo fácil y delicioso que es prepararlo en casa.
No necesita de herramientas mágicas, lo único que necesita son unos pasos muy simples pero delicados para que el arroz blanco siempre le salga perfecto.
Este es el arroz base para una gran cantidad de recetas que usted misma puede elaborar, una comida completa, simple, delicioso y saludable.
Lo invito a que pruebe esta receta y nunca volvera a comprar arroz en ninguna parte.


  • 2 tazas de arroz de grano largo crudo
  • 1 cucharadita de aceite
  • 1 cucharada de ajo picado
  • 2 cucharaditas de sal
  • 1/2 taza de cilantro picado
  • 2 1/2 taza de agua caliente


En una olla caliente a fuego medio el aceite agregue el ajo y el arroz, revuelva por 5 minutos, a este proceso se le llama tostar el arroz, agregue la sal y el cilantro, revuelva bien.
Agregue el agua caliente, revuelva el arroz mientras incorpora el agua.

Tape la olla y baje el fuego, deje cocinar por 20 minutos, no levante la tapa de la olla cuando el arroz se este cocinando.
Cuando ya hallan pasado los 20 minutos, levante la tapa y revuelva con un tenedor.

Tape la olla, apague el fuego y deje que el arroz repose por 10 minutos.

Una vez pasado el tiempo mueva un poco el arroz con un tenedor y sirva.

Rinde para 6 personas.

  • 4 cups cooked white rice 
  • 1 red onion, finely chopped 
  • 1 red bell pepper, finely chopped 
  • 1 cup of chopped cilantro 
  • 200 grams of chopped cooked ham 
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce, low sodium 
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce 
  • Cooking spray 
  • salt and pepper to taste


In a hot skillet spray with cooking spray and add the onion and red bell pepper, cook for 5 minutes, add the ham and stir.
Add rice and mix well, add the soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce, stir well until everything is completely incorporated, add salt and pepper.

Remove from heat and sprinkle the cilantro, serve with salad.
Makes 6 servings.

 Esta es una excelente opción para utilizar arroz del día anterior, y una de las formas mas rápidas de preparar un almuerzo o cena que encantara a toda la familia.

Y en estos días buscamos recetas de pocos ingredientes que nos faciliten el dia y no tengamos que pasar horas cocinando, lo mas importante es su sabor delicioso le sorprenderá.
El arroz frito es delicioso y puede variar los ingredientes de la forma que mas le guste, hasta puede hacerlo completamente vegetariano, si ese es el caso.
Haga esta receta para su familia y vera como les encantara, una nueva forma de consumir el arroz y puede ser que se convierta en la favorita.

  • 4 tazas de arroz blanco cocinado del dia anterior
  • 1 cebolla morada picada finamente
  • 1 chile dulce rojo picado fino
  • 1 taza de culantro picado
  • 200 gramos de jamón cocido picado
  • 4 cucharadas de salsa de soya baja en sodio
  • 2 cucharadas de salsa worcestershire
  • spray de cocina
  • sal y pimienta al gusto
En una saten caliente rocie con spray de cocina y agregue la cebolla y el chile dulce rojo, deje cocinar por 5 minutos, agregue el jamon y revuelva.
Agregue el arroz y mezcle bien, incorpore la salsa de soya y la salsa worcestershire, revuelva bien hasta que todo este completamente incorporado, agregue sal y pimienta.
Retire del fuego y rocie el cilantro, sirva acompañado de ensalada.
Rinde 6 porciones.

This is literally 101 Costa Rican cuisine.
Traditionally all Costa Ricans should know how to do this dish. I tell you a little story, many years ago in Costa Rica that best work was to collect coffee.
Those who did, got up very early and went to what we call coffee farms to collect enough and that way earn the money for that day.
Usually they need a meal to give them lots of energy, thus was born the Gallo Pinto.
Is accompanied with homemade tortillas and plantains.
My grandmother told me that she usually had to make the lunches for the whole family and take them to where they were harvesting coffee.
I know it is eaten in many countries this type of dish, and we Costa Ricans are very proud of this tradition inherited from our grandparents.
Enjoy it.


2 cups cooked black beans (can use fresh beans or a can of 15 oz.)
3 cups cooked long-graind rice from day before
1/2 red onion, finely chopped
1/2 red bell pepper, finely chopped
1 cup finely chopped cilantro stems and leaves
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce or Lizano sauce
1 tablespoon butter
salt and pepper to taste.


In a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter and saute onion and red bell pepper. Add beans stir well, add the rice.
Add the Worcestershire sauce or Lizano sauce, salt and pepper, cook for 5 minutes until all ingredients are well blended. Remove from heat and stir in the cilantro.
Serve with tortillas and sour cream.

Preparation time 10 minutes.
Cooking time 10 minutes.
Makes 8 servings.

In a slow cooker add 1 pound of raw black beans, 6 cups of water 6 cloves of garlic, 2 tablespoons of
Dried oregano and 1 cup of cilantro stems and leaves. Cook for 3 hours or until beans are tender.

Esto es literalmente cosina costarricense 101.
Por tradición todos los costarricenses deberíamos saber hacer este platillo.
Les cuento un poco de historia, hace ya muchos anos en Costa Rica el trabajo que mas se hacia era recolectar cafe. Aquellas personas que lo hacían, se iban desde muy temprano a lo que llamamos Cafetales para poder recolectar suficiente y de esta forma ganarse el salario de ese día.
Por lo general necesitan una comida que les diera mucha energía, así nació el Gallo Pinto.
Lo acompañaban con tortillas caseras y platano maduro.
Mi abuela contaba que por lo general ella tenia que hacer los almuerzos de toda la familia y llevarlos al lugar donde estaban recolectando el cafe.
Se que en muchos países se come este tipo de platillo, y nosotros los costarricenses también nos sentimos muy orgullosos de esta tradición heredada por nuestros abuelos.
Que lo disfruten.


2 tazas de frijoles negros cocinados ( puede utilizar frijoles frescos o una lata de 15 onz. )
3 tazas de arroz cocido del dia anterior
1/2 cebolla morada picada fina
1/2 pimiento rojo picado fino
1 taza de cilantro picado fino tallo y hojas
2 cucharadas de salsa worcestershire o salsa Lizano
1 cucharada de mantequilla
sal y pimienta al gusto.


En una sartén grande a fuego medio, derrita la mantequilla y sofria la cebolla con el pimiento rojo.
Agregue los frijoles revuelva bien he incorpore el arroz.
Agregue la salsa worcestershire o salsa Lizano, sal y pimienta, cocine por 5 minutos para que todos los ingredientes se incorporen bien.
Retire del fuego y anada el cilantro.

Acompañe con tortillas y natilla o crema agria.

Tiempo de preparación 10 minutos.
Tiempo de cocción 10 minutos.
Rinde 8 porciones.

En una olla a cocimiento lento agregue 1 libra de frijoles negros crudos, 6 tazas de agua, 6 dientes de ajo, 2 cucharadas de oregano seco y 1 taza de cilantro tallos y hojas.
Cocine por 3 horas hasta o hasta que los frijoles estén suaves.



This is a classic desert from my beloved Costa Rica, with some changes to give it a taste even more delicious.

2 cups of long grain rice
5 cups of milk
1/3 cup sugar
3 cinnamon sticks
5 cloves
1 can condense milk
1 can evaporate milk
1 egg yolk
zest of one lemon
1 cup raisins
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon butter
In a large saucepan over low heat put the rice, milk, cloves, cinnamon and lemon zest. Stir with a wooden spoon. Let it cook until the rice is ready in about 30 minutes. Move constantly to avoid sticking to the bottom of the pot. When the rice is almost dry, add butter, and three quarters of evaporated milk. Stirring constantly add the egg yolk with the remaining quarter of evaporated milk, sugar and condensed milk. Remember to move constantly. Finally raisins, move, leave Boil for three minutes and remove from heat. You can add coconut, ground cinnamon or grated cheese without salt.

Made with ingredients that we all have in the house, this rice really take you out of trouble.
1 cup long grain rice
1 onion, chopped
1/2 teaspoon of dried oregano
2 cloves garlic, minced
5 strips of bacon, chopped
1 / 2 pound of chicken or turkey ham diced
1 pound of chicken or turkey ham diced
1 / 4 teaspoon achiote paste or powder
1 cup chopped cilantro
1 cup red pepper cut into strips
2 cups water
salt and pepper to taste
Heat a large skillet and add the baconfollowed add onion, oregano, celery, red pepper and garlic let the vegetables cook, add the rice and followed achiote, stir well, salt, pepper to taste, add the ham turkey, water, cover and lower heat.
Simmer until water is completely evaporated and rice is cooked through, about 25 minutes.
Once ready, sprinkle the cilantro and serve.
Serves 4 people.
